Segment Description

The interchange of SH 121 and IH 35E will be designed as part of the design of the West Segment of SH 121.  The limits of the interchange along SH 121 are from Lake Vista Drive east to the existing over the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. The main lanes of SH 121 within the projects limits will be constucted on a new bridge. Direct connectors for SH 121 and IH 35E include:

• East Bound 121- South Bound 35
• West Bound 121 - South Bound 35
• North Bound 35 - East Bound 121 and
• North Bound 35 - West Bound 121.

Additional improvements to be constructed as part of the interchange include:

• Northbound exit ramp from IH 35E to FM 3040, including 1500' of relocated frontage road.
• Southbound entrance ramp from FM 3040 to IH 35E, will including 1500' of relocated frontage road.
• IH 35E Main lane improvements from approximately 2,500' north and south of the SH 121 centerline. Main lane improvements include bridge widenings. For a portion of these limits, IH 35E will be improved to 5 lanes in each direction plus a 2 lane reversible HOV lane along the centerline of IH 35E.
• Construction of a U-turn lane north of the existing SH 121 frontage road bridge with a separate bridge structure.
• Realignment and reconstruction of the Northbound and Southbound IH 35E frontage roads will include two new bridges south of SH 121.
• High mast lighting will be designed for the interchange area.
